Girls on the Run Spring 5K Run/Walk Celebration

Description

Girls on the Run is a program like no other. We are an afterschool program that inspires 3rd-8th grade girls to be joyful, healthy and confident through an 8-week, intentionally designed curriculum that improves social-emotional wellbeing and creatively increases movement. 

Our Spring 5K Celebration is the culminating event of our 8-week spring program for over 1,000 youth, 300 coaches, and 120 teams from across 8 counties. This closing, noncompetitive event brings together all of the program participants, coaches, and families from the spring season to Verona Area High School, the site of the Spring 5K, to complete the final 5K run/walk which they spent the whole season preparing for. Kids bus in from communities as far away as Beloit. The event typically draws over 3,000 youth, families, and community members including sponsors, vendors, Ainsley’s Angels, volunteers, and even Bucky the Badger. 

Crossing the finish line instills confidence through completion and is a joyful moment program participants always remember. Each child in our program receives a commemorative medal to celebrate this incredible achievement and is invited to run with a caring adult in their lives. It  gives program participants of all abilities a tangible sense of accomplishment. They also each receive a digital copy of a professional photo taken of them as they cross the finish line.
